The foundation for the band's distinctive style was laid earlier, in 1948, when William W. Davis became its first full time director. Having played trumpet in Cab Calloway's band, Davis brought the showmanship and musical flair from Calloways influence, shaping the Sonic Boom into the powerhouse it is today. Sharing
