It is coated in a glossy black lacquer with gold painted accents. On the front side has carved peonies painted gold. It contains a removable top panel with gold on the front edge and a red lacquered underside. In the case of memorial services, a piece of cloth called Uchishiki is inserted between the base and top piece.
