Armed with the slogan Making the Trains Worth Traveling Again, Amtrak contracted with Budd to design an all stainless steel car whose interiors could be readily re configured to support a variety of potential needs, resulting in the Amfleet series. Over 490 Amfleet 1 cars, the basis of the Atlas Premier model, were delivered, with
