Sir Wally was an expert dog handler and polar explorer, selecting huskies from West Greenland and training them for expeditions in Antarctica. Sir Wally also used teams of dogs in his British Trans Arctic Expedition: the first and only crossing of the Arctic Ocean across its longest axis, via the North Pole and the Pole of Inaccessibility.
