They are long stretches of fabric with ties on one end used to bind the legs from the ankle to the knee to protect the legs. These were a very common accessory for military uniforms worldwide during the First and Second World Wars. Other forms of kyahan, or gaiters, were commonly used by workers (such as firemen and police),
