The cooperative started in 1994 and currently supports around 1200 coffee farmers who manage between 100 to 1000 coffee trees each. Gicherori sits on the slopes of Mount Kenya, and the coffee is grown in rich volcanic soil. SL 28 and SL 34 are the most commonly grown varieties in this area and are recognised for their high quality
