The character was designed as a cool, sunglasses wearing camel who appeared in ads, posters Joe Camel's transsexual girlfriend. Joe Camel was the Lou Reed of cigarette mascots. As some have pointed out, it's odd that a generic "Mr Cig" is promoting cigarettes, when it was a heavily branded industry with it's own branded mascots such as the Kool Penguin ( We're sure most can name at least one of the three mascots from the 80s in this photo but who can name all 3?
