The dark green compound leaves turn yellow to golden brown in fall. Non showy gendered spring catkins can give way to sweet husked nuts, but only starts producing after 10 20 years of age. Grows best in full sun and rich, moist well drained soils. Carya laciniosa is a host plant for the Hickory Horned Devil. Type: Tree
