This pendant is a locket, as you can see, and the backside has a cover glass, too, and can be pulled out in order to insert your own family memento, lock of hair, small photo whatever. The pendant would have originally been considered mourning jewelry. The seed pearls are iconographic and represent the tears shed by the one left
