The adapter bridges two different fitting sizes so an attachment or accessory can connect to a hose or wand it would not otherwise fit. Without the correct adapter, mismatched fittings leak air at the joint and you lose suction through the attachment. A properly sized adapter seals the connection so full airflow reaches the tool.
